APSTAR-IIR is a Space Systems/Loral FS-1300 model satellite and was successfully launched to its designated geostationary orbital slot at 76.5°E in October 1997, on board a Long March 3B launch vehicle from Xichang , China . It has an operational lifetime of approximately 15 years.

APSTAR-IIR has 28 C-band and 16 Ku-band transponders. The C-band footprint covers four continents: Asia, Europe, Africa and Australia . Through its advanced technology, it provides improved communication performance, power and efficiency to our clients. The Ku-band mainly covers the Greater China region (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan ). APSTAR-IIR has two high-power Ku-band transponder beams. Beam #1 is designed primarily for VSAT telecommunications networks and Beam #2 for DTH broadcasting services.
