APT SATELLITE SIGNS TRANSPONDER AGREEMENT

Hong Kong, 29 April 1997 - APT Satellite Holdings Limited ("APT Satellite") (Stock No. 1045), announced today the offical signing of the lease agreement with China Broadcasting Film Television Satellite Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Ministry of Radio, Film and Television of the People's Republic of China ("PRC") on 28 April 1997, for the lease of one of its APSTAR-IA transponders which broadcasts satellite television for television house-holds in Yunnan Province and across the whole country of PRC.

Since the commissioning of the transponder, the transmission service for the satellite television broadcasting in Yunnan Province has been successful. The high quality of transmission has been appreciated by the users. APT Satellite expects that more lease agreements will be entered into with customers which will further increase APT Satellite's transponder take-up rate.

APT  Satellite provides high quality, and reliable satellite transponders services to internatonal customers in Asia-Pacific regions including PRC through its two in-orbit satellites, APSTAR-I and APSTAR-IA, both being Hughes Hs-376 model. The two satellites, each carrying 24 C-band transponders, were launched in July 1994 and July 1996 respectively. Since the commencement of operation in September last year, the take-up rate of APSTAR-IA has been increasing continuously. At present, there are about 80 percent of its transponders leased. Meanwhile the transponders of APSTAR-I remain fully subscribed. These two satellites provide APT Satellite with a stable and considerable income.

To cope with the demand for satellite transponders, APT Satellilte is going to launch its third satellite, APSTAR-IIR, in mid-1997. It is an SS/Loral FS-1300 model high power satellite built with 28 C-band and 16 Ku-band which will provide transponder service over 100 countries or 75 percent of the world's population.

With a rapidly expanding demand in satellite broadcasting and telecommunication services, APT Satellite is highly optimistic of its future.
