APT SATELLITE SIGNS TRANSPONDER AGREEMENT

Hong Kong, June 16, 1997 - APT Satellite Holdings Limited today announced the leasing of one of its APSTAR-IA transponders to China Broadcasting Film Television Satellite Co., Ltd. (CBFTS), transmitting television programs for CBFTS' Guizhou television station to households in Guizhou, across the nation and in some parts of Asia outside China. The CBFTS is a subsidiary of PRC's Ministry of Radio, Film and Television.

Switching to APSTAR-IA from another satellite transponder, the Guizhou television station can now deliver its prorammes to households through a better quality satellite system and to a wider coverage area. Guizhou is one of the first PRC provinces to use satlllite to transmit provincial telecision programs.

Since APSTAR-IA began to transmit Guizhou's TV programmes on June 9 this year, the excellent quality of transmission has been appreciated by the users. In addition to Guizhou, CBFT's Yunnan station also switched from another satellite transponder to an APSTAR-IA transponder in April this year. The signing of the two leases further demonstrated users' confidence in APT's services, which are highly welcome by its China and overseas customers.

APSTAR-I and APSTAR-IA, both Hughes HS-376 model, were launched in July 1994 and July 1996 respectively. The two satellites, each carrying 24 C-band transponders, are located at the orbital slots 138 degrees East and 134 degrees East respectively. APSTAR-IA currently has 21.5 of its transponders leased, representing about 90% of its total capacity.

Its customers include China Central Television which uses the transponder to transmit three programs, and television stations in Shandong, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Xizang, Xinjiang, Yunnan and Guizhou.

With a rapidly expanding Asian market for broadcasting and telecommunications services, APT is highly optimistic of its future.
